How can people believe in a certain god and an afterlife when all the evidence is against them?

All the logical, rational and reasonable evidence is against religion yet there are people who are blinded by faith? Why haven't they got one molecule of logic in their body? What makes them follow their god so closely? How can they believe in an afterlife? More importantly, how can people still believe in creationism?! It's scary what ignorance can do to people. I do however accept that religion is beneficial to people because it gives them hope, reurance, a purpose to live and a explanation of why they are here but still, even if I was so down and depressed, I could never trick myself into believing in some non-existent supernatural being who is at the same time so contradictory.
