What is the best cable/satellite dish network for me? I reside in Northern California ?

I reside in northern california, more specifically oakland, ca, and we have decided to rid of our antennas and get cable. dont want anything too fancy, just basic cable along with discovery channel and espn and stuff like that. we dont need HBO or showtime or anything like that. we are currently paying $80 a month for DSL/Home phone.
