Are TRAIN CONDUCTORS / ENGINEERS Required By Law...........?

Yes unless it's a quiet zone we have to blow the horn 1/4 mile in advance of a crossing at speeds above 45 mph or for at least 15 seconds before reaching the crossing.The FRA can fine us and the railroad can penalize us for not doing so.In addition if you hit and kill someone at a crossing and they prove you weren't blowing the horn and ringing the bell you can be charged with manslaughter.And yes it has happened more than once.
