Is it me or does this tobacco tax seem absurd?

yes, all of us smokers know it is bad for you. but like the enlightenment ideology suggests, we are all rational capable beings who can make rational decisions! i think this tax crosses certain boundaries! the government should not be allowed to this far into our private lives! furthermore, once we allow the government to tax us, then it will only continue to get worse. if i want to enjoy something, that happens to be unhealthy for me, then fine i will. i don't need to government to raise the tax to 'motivate' me to quit. whats next? raising taxes on fast food to encourage obese people to stop eating unhealthy? it is ridonkulous!!!
