Why is it that when good, honest Americans challenge the addition of "under God" into the pledge?

The separation of church and state was meant so the Government could not establish a state run or endorsed religion like the King of England did. What part of that do you not understand? Having "Under God" or "In God We Trust" does not violate anything as its not endorsing any religion
